My First Line Treatment

Who knew such a tiny little pill could be a cancer treatment! Not me I tell you. My last encounter with cancer was full swing port-a-cath chemotherapy therapy sessions that lasted half a day! Now in the comfort of my own home I just swallow this little pill.
This is Letrozole and it is a hormone inhibitor. My cancer is estrogen positive so this drug reduces the production of estrogen in my body and therefore cuts off the food supply to the cancer. On a side note this pill is also used to treat infertility, how crazy is that! (you take it on and off for infertility but continuously for treating cancer.) Weird.
I began this treatment over the holidays. So far the side effects are similar to menopause, sore joints, tired and head aches. I will need CT scans every 3 months to monitor the lesion. Once it shows signs of change/growth then my treatment will change. Let’s hope that won’t happen for many years.
